Our Secondary education programme is designed in line with our nursery, infants and primary curriculum in that our main aim is to nurture and stimulate each pupil’s academic and personal potential. During this stage we provide study strategies and techniques to help equip pupils with the organisational tools they need to ease the learning process. In the same way we encourage and develop creativity, implement strategies to promote self-esteem and encourage critical thinking.
Secondary pupils are young adults and guidance from their tutor and our pastoral care team is essential to ensure that they are able to address personal and academic needs as and when they arise. Our school counsellor offers personal development seminars and talks.
Our philosophy regarding the importance of language learning continues through to our Secondary education. We place great importance on the need for the language acquisition process to be placed in a socio-cultural context to ensure pupils gain a fully functional knowledge of English, German and Mandarin that they can use on a daily basis in their academic life and beyond.
Embracing Mandarin Chinese as a fourth language
The material with which our team of native teachers work has been recommended by the Confucius Institute from the University of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. We prepare students for the official Chinese exam Y.C.T (Youth Chinese Test) which are officially recognised by the Chinese Ministry of Education. The first of these official exams will take place during May of the academic year 2013-2014.
